Green Cliff Falls

When you are deep in the rain forest you forget how small you are, then you come to a giant waterfall spilling over the top of the mountain, which is fed by the second highest mountain in Queensland, you are quick to realise you're just a speck amongst natures backdrop.

Green Cliff falls are located deep in the mountains from Babinda. Please take note of the following if you wish to take on this hike. The walk is remote, the path is a small cut path with pink ribbon directing, you must have a good sense of direction, a GPS of some sort should be taken in the course of getting lost along with a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) and there will be leaches.

Beginning your journey on the right path, begin at Babinda Creek recreational car park, and start your walk on the Goldfields trail the track turns off this trail after 4.9km from the car park, this is identified by a machete sheath on a tree, and pink ribbon if you look down that path.

From here you will follow a winding path for a few 100m’s before beginning the climb to get up to the mountains saddle. This a steep climb in humid temperatures below the rainforest canopy, the climb will take you up to about 500m in altitude before the track plateaus out for a short period time. Where you will begin to hear the sound of running water.

You will then begin to descend down the side of the mountain to the valley. Certain parts of this track you will need to keep a keen eye on the marking tape as it can be difficult to see in sections. The final 500m down to the running creek takes a very steep decent straight down the mountain, before long you will pop out of the rain forest onto rocks in front of a cool running creek.

This is a good place to have a break, eat some food, re-fill your water, check and remove leeches while having a refreshing dip. Green cliff falls is upstream, stick to the right hand side of the creek for the majority of this walk, along the track you will need to clamber over rocks and make several crossings across the creek, be safe an careful as help is a long way away.

After about 1km you will come across these falls you will notice a bunch of logs piled up on the left hand side where the water is shallow an running, cross here and begin the ascent up the hill till you come to a rock wall follow this around till you can descend down on top of the falls.





Another 600-800m upstream you will come the last set of falls you will need to climb to reach Green Cliffs main set of falls. Upon reaching these falls to climb depending on the time of year there is a dried up waterfall ramp then a large amount of exposed rock before the other falls on the right hand side. Climb up this exposed rock and continue on hugging close to the rocks as the waterfall is just off to our side and the rocks are smooth and slightly slippery in sections. Once you have navigated to the top of these falls its a simple rock hop for about 5-10mins up the creek to Green Cliff Falls.
