Kirrama Range is west of Kennedy 15mins north of Cardwell. Kirrama Range links Kennedy to Mt Garnet however the track has not been used in a while and closed but for those wanting to try their luck you can push for 200km trip to Mt Garnet, however a $2.5million upgrade has recently been completed on the Kirrama Range allowing travelers to easily pass over the new corrugated and gravel roads to Blencoe Falls.
After turning off at Kennedy the bitumen road continues for 6.5km until you turn right onto the National Parks road. From the start of this road its 70km in total to the falls. You have great views looking back towards Cardwell and Hinchinbrook Island at the start before you get deep into the rainforest where waterfalls flow right by the road side.
There is a lot of wildlife around so keep your eyes open snakes, kangaroos, possums, wild cats and plenty of cows. Once at the top of the range there is a large variety of creeks and areas you are able to swim in, with a pre-registered camping area.
At the parking spot for the falls lookout there is small track leading down the mountain where you can get 'tree free' photos of the falls. The area towards the falls look prehistoric and untouched with enormous hoop pine trees around the base of the falls and up the mountain.
Looking out over the other lookout you get a beautiful view down through the valley where you can see the Herbert River off into the distance. I class Blencoe Falls as a must see for everyone, the beauty of the land that has not been destroyed by humans and looks that is not changed since the dawn of time.
