Scout Hat and Double Island

When the wind drops and swell smooths Double Island and Haycock Island (commonly known as Scout Hat) are in respect to travel time as nice as out at the reef. Double Island is privately owned and access is restricted to where you go on the island.
On the south side of Double Island the water is shallow and contains a good Eco-system of fish, turtles and if you're lucky dolphins. Between Scout Hat and Double Island lies rocky areas which contain cray fish and oysters, although many people dive here it should also be with caution as it an area with a high population of sharks present due to trawlers fishing and hiding from the wind next to Double Island about 30 years ago.
On the north side of Double Island there is also plenty of reef to explore if your willing to take a risk, there is also a small cave that you can either kayak into on high tide or pull up on the rocks before it and walk in.
For those wishing to explore Scout Hat there isn't a whole lot to explore due to the size of the island, it provides a nice area to dive and for those wanting to be rewarded with beautiful 360 degree views you are able to climb to the top be careful of pigeon nests with the shrubbery however. From the top you are able to make out the reefs around Double Island and Scout Hat, and look at to the reef on a good day you can almost see Green Island.

This is a great spot to kayak as its not far from the shore (1.2 -2km) and there is easy access along Palm Cove to drop your kayak into the water.
