Alligators Nest

Alligators Nest is provides pristine freshwater running of the surrounding mountains. There is always plenty of water running as Tully is known for having the highest recordings of rain falling almost every year.

Getting there: Tully located 2 hours south of Cairns, turn off the Bruce Highway onto Butler Street and take the first right onto Richardson Street followed by the next right onto Murray Street. Continue for 5.5km along Murray Street, which becomes Bulgan Road. At the T-intersection, turn left on to Lizzio Road and drive 800m to the car park.

The area has been really well setup up by the Cassowary Coast Council, the area has lots of tables setup along the creek with a large grassed area to provide plenty of space for picnics.
Entry is provided by a platform placed by the council and stairs leading into the the water.
Beware there could be lots of mosquitoes around as I found out when I went so be sure to bring some insect repellent just in case.

Travelling Further: If you go further along the dirt road instead of stopping at the Alligators nest
you will arrive at gate by Tully Water. Just on the right there is another wonderful place to go swimming with a sand entry and another side creek entering.
From here park on the side not to block the gate. Follow the car path past the gate for 1.5km the track slightly ascends an descends along the way before arriving at what seems to be a water collection/testing point. An artificial wall has been built creating a nice infinity pool with palm trees behind on a little sand island. This is another beautiful place to just swim, sit in the water and relax.

Please be careful and responsible remembering this is council land, don't leave litter lying around or cause damage to anything.
