Souita Falls & Pepina Falls

Souita Falls is nestled away in the cool Misty Mountains hidden from the tourists so you can relax in a waterfall pool by yourself.

To get to Souita Falls from Cairns head up the Palmerston Highway. The highway will take you to Milla Milla, turn off left for the "Misty Mountains" drive. From here the drive should be about 7.5km until you get to Middlebrook Rd (17°33'43.9"S 145°36'18.8"E), the sign at this intersection also shows Souita Falls. Turn off and continue for 4.5km dont turn off this road, you will cross a small bridge and just on the other side will be a small area you can park beside the road (17°33'55.5"S 145°38'35.6"E). Here there are to old wooden signs informing you to the first falls its about 110m and the second fall is 220m, it has also been noted on the sign to get to the viewing platform of the second falls there are 80 stairs.

The first falls are the nicer of the two, in order to get to the base of it though you must walk to the second falls. From the viewing platform jump the fence and walk upstream to the base of the falls. The lush vegetation and vines hanging down on the side make this one of the nicest falls I have been to, with small caves hidden around.

Pepina Falls

Pepina Falls is 1km further up the road along the Old Palmerston Highway from the turn off to Souitta Falls. If coming from Souitta Falls turn left back onto the Old Palmerston Highway, follow the road for 1km until you come to a dirt patch on the left to park on just before a bridge (17°34'09.0"S 145°36'31.6"E), these falls are sign posted so you shouldn't be able to drive past them. From the top these falls aren't overly impressive, follow the path down a 100m and you are welcomed to a beautiful waterfall stepping its way down to the creek below.
